Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley envisions a future where tokenization transforms stock and equities markets, making it easier for small to medium-sized businesses to raise capital. By converting traditional assets into blockchain tokens, the process of tokenization could significantly lower the barrier to entry for raising capital, democratizing access to funding that was once only available to larger, public companies.
Horsley emphasizes that the revolutionary potential of tokenization lies in its impact on the supply side of raising capital. While many have focused on the demand side and the democratization of access to money market funds through tokenization, Horsley believes that the true transformation lies in the supply side. With approximately 4,600 companies in the US currently able to access public equity markets, but over 200,000 companies doing over $10M in revenue, Horsley sees tokenization as a new, democratized capital market that could unlock opportunities for businesses that previously couldn't meet the immense scale required for public listing.
According to Horsley, this untapped resource has the potential to revolutionize how small to medium-sized businesses raise capital, offering the possibility for individuals to invest in local enterprises like their neighborhood dry cleaner or hometown barber shop.
