The popular meme coin project Shiba Inu recently celebrated its fifth birthday, marking half a decade of growth and evolution. To take the project further, lead developer Shytoshi Kusama announced plans for the election of an interim president, aiming to guide the community through a fair and transparent selection process.
The election will unfold across three voting sessions. Initially, anyone can nominate themselves, and the top 10 candidates will advance to a debate phase conducted either live or through recordings on multiple platforms. Following the debates, a secondary vote will narrow the field to the top three candidates. The final vote to appoint the interim president will take place one week after the debates conclude.
This new president will be charged with steering the project's future, ensuring adherence to the Shib Paper guidelines, and overseeing the establishment of the first congress composed of four DAO councils. With responsibility for a $7 billion token and millions of community members, the role demands a leader who combines technological expertise, dedication, and visionary leadership.
Kusama emphasized that the ideal president should be a significant investor, or “whale,” in the SHIB community, to align incentives with the project's success. The voting system will weigh one token as one vote, encouraging those with substantial stakeholding to have greater influence. Kusama also urged the community to thoroughly vet all candidates to ensure the right choice is made.
Regarding Kusama’s own involvement, the lead developer explained that their role is to fulfill the vision of Ryoshi, Shiba Inu’s elusive creator. While Kusama’s direct leadership will pass to the interim president, they will remain active in driving innovation and supporting related DAO initiatives, continuing to contribute to the ecosystem from within the community they helped build.
