BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) shattered records by crossing $80 billion in assets under management on July 10, achieving this milestone in just 374 trading days. This rapid growth makes IBIT the fastest exchange-traded fund (ETF) to reach such a level, far outperforming the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO), which took 1,814 days to amass the same asset size, and surpassing international-equity funds IEFA and IEMG, which took over 2,000 days each. By July 11, IBIT’s assets climbed to $83 billion, ranking it as the 21st-largest ETF in the United States.
This milestone was accompanied by significant inflows into US spot Bitcoin ETFs totalling $1.18 billion on the same day, marking the third-largest daily inflow for these products. IBIT led this surge with $448.5 million, followed by Fidelity’s FBTC with $324.3 million and Ark 21Shares’ ARKB with $268.7 million. Cumulative net inflows across the 12 US spot Bitcoin ETFs reached $51.3 billion through July 11, with IBIT commanding $53.45 billion of that total. Other major players include FBTC at $12.62 billion, ARKB at $3.02 billion, and Bitwise’s BITB at $2.29 billion.
Despite substantial redemptions from Grayscale’s GBTC amounting to $23.38 billion, the overall industry’s net inflows remain strongly positive. Presently, the 12 US spot Bitcoin ETFs hold approximately 1.26 million BTC, valued near $149 billion, accounting for about 6% of Bitcoin’s maximum supply of 21 million coins. IBIT dominates this cohort with control over 706,008 BTC, representing roughly 56% of the total Bitcoin held by these ETFs and valued at $83 billion. Fidelity’s FBTC follows distantly with $24.4 billion, while Grayscale’s GBTC retains $21.7 billion after ongoing redemptions.
