FIFA is transitioning its FIFA Collect NFT platform from Algorand to its own Avalanche Layer-1 blockchain to boost scalability, performance, and integration capabilities. Originally launched on Algorand with additional collectibles issued on Polygon, FIFA Collect enables fans to buy and trade NFT soccer highlights. The switch to Avalanche is designed to enhance speed, scalability, EVM compatibility, and ease of integration with popular wallets, creating a future-proof platform for growth. Francesco Abbate, CEO of Modex and FIFA Collect, emphasized that this migration allows FIFA to deliver unique digital collectibles and immersive fan experiences with improved technology that aligns with their long-term vision. Performance, scalability, and customizability were key factors in choosing Avalanche, according to Abbate. John Nahas, Chief Business Officer at Ava Labs, remarked that this migration empowers FIFA to leverage its global audience and expand its digital assets, applications, and use cases on its own terms. He also highlighted this as a landmark step toward broader blockchain adoption in the sports industry. While FIFA Collect's migration is the initial phase, FIFA plans to broaden the use of its blockchain for additional business applications in the future, although details remain under wraps.
