Michael Saylor's firm, Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), recently purchased 13,390 BTC for $1.34 billion, increasing its Bitcoin holdings to 568,840 BTC valued at $59 billion. The acquisition took place from May 5 to May 11, 2025, with Strategy spending over $1.34 billion on the digital asset during this period.

In total, the company has invested $39.41 billion in Bitcoin, at an average price of $69,287 per coin, and has achieved a 15.5% Bitcoin yield year-to-date in 2025. Strategy, the largest corporate Bitcoin holder, began buying Bitcoin in 2020 and significantly accelerated its purchases last year.

Michael Saylor, co-founder and chairman of Strategy, advocates Bitcoin as a superior asset and a hedge against inflation. The idea originated during the COVID-19 pandemic when the U.S. Federal Reserve's economic stimulus raised concerns about preserving capital value. Saylor’s vision was to provide shareholders with the best value through Bitcoin acquisition.

Strategy is now working to securitize Bitcoin, allowing investors to gain regulated stock exchange exposure by purchasing company shares—providing an accessible way to invest in cryptocurrency through traditional financial channels. This business model has inspired smaller companies on Nasdaq and beyond, such as Metaplanet and Semler Scientific, to follow suit.

Bitcoin was recently trading near $104,110, close to its all-time high of $108,786 reached in January 2025, marking a 4% gap from the record. The cryptocurrency has seen an 11% increase over the past week, although its price remained largely flat over the last 24 hours.

Strategy’s continued large-scale purchases emphasize both the growing corporate confidence in Bitcoin and its potential as a mainstream investment asset amidst fluctuating global economic conditions.
