Nvidia (NVDA) has reclaimed the top spot on Interactive Brokers' (IBKR) weekly list of the 25 most traded stocks and options on its trading platform during what's been a "chaotic" run through markets recently. The AI chipmaker saw a gross 372.5K trades across stocks and options on the IBKR platform during the five business days prior to Interactive Brokers (IBKR) releasing its 25 most-active list on Wednesday. That activity outstripped that of Tesla (TSLA), which IBKR characterized as the platform's "former perennial leader" earlier this month. In Wednesday's update, Tesla saw a gross 300.7K trades across stocks and options.

"Despite - or more likely, because of - the recent geopolitical concerns," IBKR's most-active list was "largely populated with the usual suspects," this week, Steve Sosnick, chief strategist at IBKR, said in an emailed note. Semiconductor company Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) was third on this week's most-active list, with 167.2K stock and options trades, followed by Apple (AAPL) at 154.1K trades. The ProShares UltraPro QQQ ETF (TQQQ) rounded out the top five at just over 77K trades. The leveraged exchange traded fund provides 3X the daily exposure of the Nasdaq 100's (NDX) performance.

"Traders tend to stick with what they know during chaotic markets. NVDA is back at the top, which is mildly surprising when we consider the heavy news flow in TSLA, and much of the list is populated with mega-cap tech stocks, crypto-linked plays, and index-based ETFs," Sosnick said.

US stocks have been in sell-off mode in recent sessions, hurt by the whittling down of rate cut expectations. Bond yields, at the same time, have been climbing as investors ditch fixed-income assets. Underscoring rate worries, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell this week said recent data showed a lack of progress on inflation. The S&P 500 (SP500) on Wednesday notched its fourth straight loss, posting its longest losing streak since the beginning of this year.

Tesla (TSLA) investors in the past few days have weighed the company's plan to layoff more than 10% of its worldwide workforce, reports of a delay in Cybertruck deliveries, a 50% price cut of Tesla's (TSLA) monthly Full Self-Driving subscription package and the reported resignation of two top executives. Meanwhile, the electric vehicle giant on Wednesday asked shareholders to vote in favor of Elon Musk's $56B 2018 compensation package at its annual meeting in June. set for June 13. A Delaware judge invalidated the compensation package earlier in the year. Tesla's Q1 earnings report is due on April 23.
