China's national-level blockchain initiative, the Blockchain-based Service Network (BSN), is set to implement blockchain technology to verify the real-name identities of its 1.4 billion citizens, sparking concern among data-privacy advocates. Spearheaded by China's Ministry of Public Security, the RealDID initiative will enable anonymous website registration and login, but top social media platforms in China mandate real-name display for content creators.

BSN claims to have the world's first national-level real-name decentralized identity system, while a bipartisan U.S. bill aims to ban federal officials from using China-made blockchains. Additionally, the U.S. removed China's Institute of Forensic Science from trade sanctions for counternarcotics cooperation, despite concerns over China's human rights practices, and China has warned its chemical manufacturers against producing fentanyl precursors.
